I remember

I remember,
You and I.

You and I-
we were a single entity
separated, pushed apart
by the broadness of digits.

And yet-
our words twisted
in various curves,
intertwined with each other
like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle
we fit- our elbows perfectly filling
in the gaps of the other.

You were the stars in my constellation,
The wind to my windpipe,
The ship to my wreck,
The blood in my veins,
The tingling sensation to my excitement.

You…were also that doubt
that sat in my throat,
You were the one that
sucked my mouth dry,
You were the horrible churning in my stomach
that gave birth to self-doubt.

But,
I remember,
You and I
The long talks-
The way our laughter synced together
but yours always a pitch higher than mine.
We spent hours admiring the beauty
about how the moon and the tide have a connection
that only they understand.

I remember,
You and I
Sitting at 3 pm
on a hot park bench
regretting our decision
by letting out repetitive symphony of sighs.

I remember,
You and I
Sitting under the dark sky
and the stars witnessed
what you said that night
I’ll remember”

Now-
You’re sitting at 3 pm
on a hot park bench-
not you and I;
but you and her.

I remember,
You and I.
I remember
but you don’t
